Clos Montebuena was born in very old vineyards with an average age of 55 years, cultivated at an altitude between 500 and 600 meters and integrated in the 80 own hectares that extend in the Labastida municipality. The vineyards are settled in the narrowest part between the Sierra Cantabria and the Ebro river, receiving the influence of both. On the part of the Sierra, it has the defense from northern cold , whereas the Ebro provides the territory with its moderate humidity. The vineyard spreads on the combination of calcareous and clayey soil, one of the most essential factors of Rioja Tempranillo quality and identification.
Clos Montebuena is fully elaborated with Tempranillo variety, selected by hand, cluster by cluster. Having entered the winery, the grapes had their stems removed and were macerated in cold for 36 hours. Later the grapes were placed into stainless steel tanks to perform alcoholic fermentation, remaining the grape juice and its skin in maceration for 12 days, followed by malolactic fermentation. Afterwards, the wine was poured into oak 70% American and 30% French barrels. There the red wine spent 18 months with every 6 months stirring. Finally, it was bottled with later 12-month ageing in this container. This is a wine balanced in acidity and alcohol, with slight toasted touches and sweet spices, providing a sense of roundness and volume, with a fine, long and warm taste on the palate.
